Getting to know Janet better during her illness was a blessing. My brother died of brain cancer, too. Since she was HB, she felt more like family. We discussed how my brother used his diagnosis to maximize his time. Janet said, "That's the plan." Janet-like: poised, clear, confident.
Janet lived with or across the street from two of our Home Base clients and helped them every day. “Your family's right here,” Janet said to H on Thanksgiving, despite having trouble speaking. H was comforted by her intuition and compassion.
Janet gave to everyone: Patrick Johnson (her dear partner, who was her soul and body through her long illness, creating all sorts of adaptive equipment for her), her friends, family, and community. Her warmth was as important as her cooking and organizing skills when she organized all those community dinners in the Old North End for many, many people who could never afford a beautiful meal like hers.
I see her now in her smeared cooking apron, explaining the exotic patient gift she prepared for 100+ people. She treated us like guests in her home.
Janet gave her Community Service Award to the many volunteers who made this community event possible.
H's kitchen table on Loomis/Greene St. had a beautiful bouquet of cut zinnias and marigolds. “Janet gave them to me,” H said.

Who is Janet carscadden?
Dr. Carscadden is a 23-year yoga practitioner. She was interested in how yoga improved flexibility, strength, and mental clarity because she was a physical therapist. She practiced a wide variety of yoga. She began using yoga in her client sessions after training in yoga therapy.
After her 200-hour Vibrant Life Yoga Teacher Training in Bali, Janet studied the eight-limbed path of yoga. She will study yoga forever. In 2006, she opened Evolution Physical Therapy and Yoga, which was her dream come true because it brought together yoga and traditional medicine.
