Authorities have recovered a body from the Murray River near Mildura less than 48 hours after a man fell off a boat in the area celebrating a bucks party.
A 34-year-old Tasmanian man was staying on a houseboat on the popular river when, according to multiple local media reports, he fell off a dinghy on Saturday night.
NSW and Victoria Police have scoured the area near the Mildura marina since the man’s disappearance.
A body was recovered in the area about 1.25pm on Monday by NSW Police Divers.
“While the body is yet to be identified, it is believed to be that of the missing man,” a statement from police said.
They said local officers had been that four men were in a dingy about 11.30 Saturday night and were heading to shore when the vessel capsized.
Emergency services were called to Dockside Drive, Mildura, about 2.40am, after the group realised the 34-year-old man was missing.
NSW Police said a “large-scale multiagency search” led by Victoria and NSW Police began soon after.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
